In addition to my day job as a web developer for a startup, I also run a small business out of my home that does bespoke programming and web hosting for various clients.

I like your song - what I’m afraid of is the increasing tsunami of trash music (much worse than now) that we’ll be faced with everywhere because companies can save a buck.

@d19dotca it seems the yarn cache was note cleared. Clearing it brought down the size . It's in the new package.

    This change was done Nov 17, 2020 - https://git.cloudron.io/cloudron/nextcloud-app/-/commit/e79cbde198750e2d11b24dd06f2abb362af209ea . A process we started in July 4, 2019 it seems - https://git.cloudron.io/cloudron/nextcloud-app/-/commit/0b47a5aca30df4b50ff734bbc03813a550ab94d0 .

In any case, there is a bit of marketing speak here. We try our best to make it portable. We are at the mercy of apps ultimately...

I can confirm that after a reboot my VPSs suddenly gained AVX support.
This is a relief, it spares me from loosing a lot of time migrating servers.

@girish said in Easy 3-2-1 Data Storage Plan with Cloudron:

I really would like to use another Cloudron as an encrypted off-site backup destination

Can’t recommend restic with e.g. OneDrive (which you might have 1 TB anyway of if you have a M365 subscription…) for this enough. End-to-end encrypted, fast, browsable with e.g. restoc-browser….

@eddowding said in What's the fastest backup and restore method?:

I have 175GB and it takes about 12h 😞 I guess something is very wrong.

Yeah, my backup of about 350GB takes about 2 hours (from a Hetzner Dedicated Server in Finland Helsinki (HEL1) to a Heztner Storage Box in Falkenstein (FSN1))

IMHO your issue is very likely due to those "too good to be true" iDrive offer pricing they had which I guess you went for.

@girish said in How easy is it to get my data out of Cloudron?:

@Sam_uk @jdaviescoates that's a good idea, indeed! Can you make a feature request out this? It's quite easy to implement.

@Sam_uk said in Keycloak & Cloudron:

@jdaviescoates Every time it updates it loses it's email config, so users can't get password resets etc.

I've kind of given up hoping it will be fixed. It just works on Elest.io, it's worth $10/m to me to have reliability.

I accept this is an unofficial package, and that's just how it goes. If I didn't mind being locked into Cloudron it looks like the on-board OIDC works nicely now, but that didn't exist when I set it up & I'd prefer data portability.

Fair enough. Although I guess it it were an official app you likely wouldn't have those issues.

I also read a post on there somewhere (which I've just spent ages trying but failing to find again) where someone was asking about details of Cloudron's OIDC implementation and features, and when I read it I thought of discussion I'd had with you and how it might be appropriate to not have Cloudron as the ultimate source of truth about users.

I'd love to understand more about to what extent having users primarily on Cloudron locks you into using Cloudron 🤔

I've had reasonably good performance from ChatGPT.
While not perfect, it's pretty good with patience.
I've tried others but none are as good as ChatGPT .... in my experience (other's may vary).

@affinity yes, everything that you see in the UI has a corresponding API call. The dashboard is a pure frontend app. Unfortunately the docs for the API are lacking but we have someone working on this actively.

For the moment, just look into the browser console for the API call it makes when cloning a application. Usually, it's a simple REST call.

Indeed I'm aware of this, my goal was more the access to app-store and smooth app upgrades and of course : Active Directory support to enable easy SSO in my context.

And because we have our self-signed certificate deployed across our entire Windows Desktop park, I was thinking that would have been enough to sign my "cloudron.intranet.domain" with our root certificate and then enable anyone in the IT dept to access a set of applications.

@necrevistonnezr said in Redis license change:

    See Elasticsearch, Hashicorp, etc.
Seems to be the future of successful projects that started as open-source and that have been exploited heavily by the likes of Amazon, Google, and other cloud providers.

What do you mean by "exploited" here? I just want to know what sorts of things they are doing.

They take free open source software and offer ready-made SaaS instances against a fee - without paying the software creators a penny.

    Thanks for the IPv6 updates.
Surprisingly, there's no widespread IPv4-to-IPv6 routing solution.
With AWS now pricing IPv4 usage since February, the topic is gaining bit traction again.
