<![CDATA[Plex Media Server]]>Plex is a client-server media player system and software suite comprising two main components.

  • The Plex Media Server either running on Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD or a NAS which organizes audio (music) and visual (photos and videos) content from personal media libraries and streams it to their player counterparts.

  • The players can either be the Plex Apps available for mobile devices, smart TVs, and streaming boxes, or the web UI of the Plex Media Server called Plex Web App, or the old Plex player called Plex Home Theater.

Also I prefer to keep Plex/*arr/Torrent related stuff apart from my business stuff on Cloudron.

Currently I'm running plex (wrongly) on the cloudron server, because despite having a GPU & working drivers in it, due to the way the docker system and jellyfin work together the performance was rubbish. One day I'll dedicate a different box to plex. I bought the lifetime license, so get all the niceities that seem more elusive on jellyfin.
I use a roku for one TV, and while my other smart TV (Sony) is much newer the built in app runs worse

Yeah I use it on mine. Works fine, but never used Plex so can't compare. So long as you've got a webOS (which afaict is the best os for smart tvs anyway) powered TV it's easy as there is a Jellyfin app.

And the gaming GPU makes transcoding a breeze. The storage is on a NAS with mapped drives. cloudron is on the same home network, but doesn't need to interact with it at all.

You cannot do this. It's not supported by Cloudron. Sadly my plex project has been dead for years 😕 I'd recommend installing plex on another device or vps and using that for plex for now.
