This is a quality of life issue.

Some applications are frequently updated and there are many releases. When you initially install the application with Cloudron, you might be on version 1.0 but next week there is 1.1 and then a few days later, 1.2, and then the very next day a bug fix to 1.3. Before you know it, you are on 1.8.

If you are not closely following an application, you can end up having to laboriously update from version 1.1 to 1.2 to 1.3 to ... all the way to 1.8.

I think Cloudron could do with a way to check what is the very latest (stable/unstable) release and let you update straight to that, rather than having to go through every point release, as I believe is currently necessary. The problem is aggravated if the application takes quite a while to update.

For example a button "upgrade to latest" that would upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1, then without intervention from 1.1 to 1.2, etc.?

Neither is Cloudron and nor is the upstream app. You can use the CLI tool if you want to do direct updates like this, but as mentioned, nobody knows what will happen.
