Sabre/dav - CalDAV and CardDAV server, alternative to Radicale.
-
As Radicale isn't the most RFC-compliant (they even state that's not their goal), it'd be nice to have a more compliant CardDAV and CalDAV server to use as an alternative to Radicale, SOGo, and Nextcloud.
A good one I have seen recommended often is "sabre/dav". It's also updated more often than Radicale too from what I can tell. I think this would be a great addition for those people who want a more pure CalDAV and CardDAV server.

Yep, Baikal works great but should just run on the LAMP app
-
I use the one in nextcloud and it's being working OK for a couple of years now.
-
@girish Does it reliably sent invitations via email if I add someone to a calendar event? Both on the web and when using mobile apps that sync to the NC calendar?
-
@girish I don’t necessarily want to have to deploy the full resources of NextCloud though just for one specific feature. But it’s an option for sure.
-
Why another one? SOGo works flawless for me and is already in the app store.
-
@yusf Because it’s always good to have options.
Plus maybe it’s just me but I much prefer to have dedicated apps for tasks rather than deploying apps only to use the secondary feature set. Lastly, Sogo doesn’t work the way I want it to and I’m not entirely sure if it’s even fully RFC compliant either based on my experiences with it so far in testing. It does not work well for me with macOS or iOS standard apps, it is difficult to delete a calendar through the Calendar app for example if Sogo is the backend, but works fine with any other DAV server I’ve tried. Plus the example below:
Example with Sogo for all DAV needs:
- I can create different calendars but must use these same calendars for groups of Reminders/Tasks. I cannot have separate groups of Reminders/Tasks.
Example with Radicale for all DAV needs:
- I can create different calendars and can create separate groups for Reminders/Tasks, they are properly independent of each other.

I have to test this. Usually, I just use the calendar for myself.

For me it has worked flawlessly for years. I never have to sign in to the actual SOGo web interface, I just use macOS stock apps. It does however seem to link regular Calendar calendars with Reminder calendars though.

-
I agree, it'd be great to have a robust CalDAV server that handles invite emails robustly. If that option is Baikal, I'm all for it. I definitely prefer SOGo for GUI but that bugs with invites mangling events (making the organize null) when I add an invitee and then not sending the email is very frustrating.

Is Sabre/Baikal the same thing??

Yes, Baikal is sabre with a an admin ui
"Baïkal is powered by sabre/dav, while offering an administrative interface for easy management."
