Sometimes a paid service is better for support and we do get the odd issues with Cloudflare free, and the Pro & Business pricing is a bit much in comparison.

DNS Made Easy is a well-ranked specialist. Paid. Yes. Supported. Yes.

Got a few domains on this now - any chance I can sponsor this development to help get it justified sooner?

@marcusquinn We have do this after Cloudron 6, we are already neck deep in new features 🙂

@girish Fair enough - what you're doing already is amazing - very happy to have joined the party and seeing it all grow and evolve so will do all I can to promote you on my web travels too as I have been in a few Discord servers and on my own website where I'll write up some articles too.

DNSPerf I think is just an independent monitor of lots of popular DNS services for performance comparison. You never really know if they have any paid manipulation but it looks roughly in-line with our experience for the providers we know of.

Yeah, DNS Made Easy control panel is super retro but they specialise in what they do, prices are reasonable for the level of expertise they offer, performance and reliability seem to look good from independent reviews - and we just need simple alternatives to Cloudflare (not as reliable in practice as we'd hoped and no errors to work with) & Route53 (convoluted admin).

I'm sorry to revive an old thread but I came across this when searching for an answer about Wildcard DNS. I use DNSME too and would love to have this integration as the new hosts I'm looking to move to aren't on CR's API list (NameSilo & Contabo) so I'm out of luck with getting my DNS automated.

As for DNSME's reliability, I've been their customer for +8 years now. I have nothing but good things to say and not once did I have a DNS problem. Also, propagation is almost instant for me (US). I never felt I had to "wait" like when using a domain host's DNS. I'm on a grandfathered plan with 10 domains for $35/year! Can't beat that 🙂

@humptydumpty probably not 6.4 since that is already under way, I will remember to schedule it for the release after.

I actually just signed up for their service, would give me some good experience before automating it.

@girish Is this still on the to-do list? I really want to automate my DNS and my domains are due for a renewal next month so it's a good time to move them if I have to. Thoughts? Thx.

@humptydumpty It's not part of our 7.1 release atleast which we expect to release next week. We have to look into how common it is to use this DNS provider before implementing it. Currently, this feature request has only 2 votes...

@girish 4 if you count me:) I agree with @humptydumpty and @marcusquinn . I have experienced many years of flawless service and support. They were recently purchased by DigiCert, but I have not noticed any changes since then. Hoping that continues.

@crazybrad @humptydumpty @marcusquinn maybe I miss something, but the current pricing says $18.75 / month ? This seems ultra expensive for basic DNS management.

I have added automation for https://dnsimple.com for next release (7.6.1) . That pricing seems much more reasonable.

@girish I switched from DNSME a while back. Been using Bunny lately (thanks for adding it!). I was on a grandfathered plan when I was with DNSME. It looks like they changed their pricing structure (for the second time) after being acquired by Digicert.

@jdaviescoates Atleast for large orgs, it's helpful to call someone if DNS propagation is not happening soon enough. Or have someone call you if your domain expires and nobody in your org noticed - a surprisingly common issue! even google's domain expired at one point and got bought by someone else. I am guessing this is what they mean by 'support' .

I attended one of DNSME's webinars, and they went over DNS failover. Most of it went over my head so fast I ended up with a buzzcut, but one thing was clear, DNSME is no ordinary DNS provider. They offer some really advanced features like failover, load balancing, traffic redirection, etc. and I really wish that's something I could make use of on Cloudron. It's definitely an overkill, but it's a move in the right direction.
