I tried to create a new one with the volumes from the old one but some things were broken in the process. The result is that I've lost access to my Cloudron Dashboard and all efforts to restore it have been unsuccessful. I think it would be better to start from scratch than to try to repair this install.

Long story short, I want to start a new, clean Cloudron install on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (I used previously Ubuntu 16 since it was an old install) and import the data from the previous server. Fortunately I have access to all my data in
/home/yellowtent
, I think only the Docker images were lost.

Basically I want to be able to move Cloudron to another server (as described here) but can't do it with Backup now from the Dashboard since I don't have access to it. I don't know what I have to move to keep everything intact.

How can manually backup and restore all of my data on a new Cloudron install ?
Can I do a complete backup of Cloudron using a script or a command line on the server? Will the "Cloudron Restore" work the same?

My instance and dashboard are back online with all my data restored. I can feel the awesomeness of Cloudron again.

In the end the install with
./cloudron-setup --version 5.6.3
seem to have worked on Ubuntu LTS (after a minor version downgrade of NGINX). Now that I've mastered the install/restore I can always go back to Ubuntu 18 if I have any problem.

You have to use Ubuntu 18 for Cloudron 5.6.3. Once you are back on track, you can upgrade to Ubuntu 20 after you update to Cloudron 6. Hope that makes sense!

Yes backups are
5.6.3
so I'll use the
./cloudron-setup --version 5.6.3
. Thanks! I was wondering about that but didn't find that in the documentation.

You can make out by looking at the filename of the backup (it will be
box_...v5.6.3.tar.gz
). The new cloudron installation version has to match what was in old cloudron. So, when you install the new Cloudron, you have to install it as
./cloudron-setup --version 5.6.3
. This is because it will otherwise install Cloudron 6 by default.

You can only upgrade to Ubuntu 20 after updating to Cloudron 6. Note that we have not published the procedure for upgrading Cloudron yet. Please hold off on upgrading to Ubuntu 20. Currently, only fresh installs on Ubuntu 20 will work (without following the procedure).

So, all you need to do now is to copy the latest backup directory (
2020-12-02-040002-333
in this case) into the new server to say
/root/latestbackup/
. Then install Cloudron in new server. There is a button at the bottom in the setupdns to restore. Click that and in the restore information, just select File System and provide the path of the backup on the server (like
/root/latestbackup/
).

/home/yellowtent
has all the latest app data, so it should be possible to resurrect all the apps from that.
