Hi guys, I’m thinking it’d be of good use to have a simple file search for the Surfer UI. Currently, with some hundreds (and growing) photos hosted there, I do feel the need sometimes to quickly search for the file name and grab the link—without having to click through folders and sub-folders looking for exactly where it is.

I Hope this feature makes sense😉!

ps. out of those i tried, Surfer is the one that keeps the original img file name and also in the url. It’s great!

I guess it does make much sense. I have rewritten the surfer UI last few days to be able to add more features, since the previously used UI library was quite limited.
Do you have any thoughts about how such a search would look like?

@vjvanjungg why not visit the Surfer page instead and use the browser search tool Ctrl-F?

@nebulon I’ve checked out Meemo with the search recently. If compatible technically, may be part of it could be brought here to save time/work?

@vjvanjungg aha.. nested folders.. that will do it.

                Nope we're all perfect! 😉

having a personal web crawler might be neat,

maybe using something like WebDAV with DASL would solve it?

Maybe Cyber Duck / Mountain Duck could help with this sort of thing too?

I would not mind to add some search directly within surfer, this would probably be much better than having to use some 3rd party webdav crawler or such. I do not really have any experience with file indexers though, if anyone has, please let me know about the options on Linux.

@vjvanjungg it was a mix of sarcasm and affirmation. 🙂

Yes, search in Surfer would be great!

(I just wanted to search https://library.uniteddiversity.coop to see if I had a particular file up there but then realised I couldn't - well, I can really because I've got it mounted locally, but really I'd like anyone to be able to search directly on Surfer 🙂 )

@jdaviescoates might be best to use a crawler on your site to index the collection. Even more so to pick up data from inside the file contents.

                                  Nice library btw 👍

@robi yeah, it's indexed pretty well by search engines already. Would still be nice for people to be able to search it if they visit it directly too.

@jdaviescoates make a page that embeds a preconfigured URL to search only your site.

this may be an interesting alternative with lots of features built in, search being one of them..
