It seems our countries are degenerating into dystopic surveillance states. Anyway, we might want to self-host our own CCTV system, for home protection, for example.

What good options are there available?

The only one I could see is this:

      https://shinobi.video/
      https://gitlab.com/Shinobi-Systems/Shinobi

      There is a Docker.

This seems to be a function that Cloudron does not yet currently support.

As a side note, home insurance companies are, as they call it, offering discounts, if you have CCTV. The ever so convenient option is usually to opt into the dystopic, state controlled surveillance grid, and your data is sent to governmental organizations.

In many countries, police are tasked with trivial jobs like patrolling tweets, instead of dealing with serious issues. One half of murders in the US go unsolved nowadays.

ZoneMinder seems a better option, with much more active development:

        https://github.com/ZoneMinder/zoneminder
        There is a Docker.

@marcusquinn ZoneMinder looks good. I have made an Application Request.

By supporting some CCTV applications, Cloudron could move into the lucrative home security market. It might well do much to fund development.

I hope we have some options sooner rather than later.

Interesting read on their thoughts on open-source and pro licensing: https://shinobi.video/articles/2017-08-03-shinobi-ce-and-shinobi-pro

Anecdotally, I've found Eufy Cameras with Apple Home very good for quality, price, not being Google or Alexa snoops, and allegedly unlimited private data storage on iCloud.

Yes, I'm using them as well. They are not depend on cloud services for data storage (just pop in a MicroSD card) and can do rtsp to send their signals to one of the above mentioned services. Sadly depends on their cloud for usage of their app. IMHO still a good price/feature balance.

Don't have experience of Eufy but I use Reolink cameras with their NVR box on local network. The box has option to FTP recordings to wherever you want (more or less).
I currently have this set up to send to Hetzner storage box.
The local NVR 1TB drive then gets overwritten by new recordings (typically lasts 5-7 days).
I don't think the recordings go to Reolink cloud.
The viewer software connects to an IP address in the local lan.

Although Reolink is not the cheapest, they are good quality and not so expensive for quality.

Depends on how strict one wants to be about privacy.
If very strict, then the Reolink cameras which don't use an NVR may go to cloud.

I also have Amazon Blink cameras, which are good price but average resolution, and they do go to cloud. Although I use HomeAssistant to pull them back for local storage (and longer).

EDIT : 2 biggest problems I have on CCTV are not about hosting recording, but (1) spider webs and (2) inbuilt IR LEDs on camera can produce glare on reflective surfaces like vehicle number plates, because the IR is directly reflecting back.
For (1) I use a feather duster once per week and an environmentally friendly spray.
For (2) I will turn off the camera IR and add separate IR floodlights at a separated distance angle. Well, that's the plan. Not yet proved for sure, but initial tests suggest it will work.

I use Blue Iris but AFAIK this is not self hostable (runs on Windows) and requires a license and/or support contract.

Currently, I'm using Wyzecams (not recommended) and looking to move to a Raspberry Pi solution instead using MotionEye. This has been on the backburner for a while now. Having a Cloudron alternative would be ideal.

I remember Shinobi having the best user interface when I tried it and a few of other options a couple of years ago. I ended up taking the motioneye route because I found it easier to configure, integrate and maintain.
