I tried to clone an app instance with only one feed and nearly 20,000 unread articles to a different server. Everything looked fine until the moment I wanted to read a few of them. No feed. No articles. The expectation was that cloning a backup would restore all feeds and articles.

My solution was to start fresh and add the one and only RSS feed. It feels good to only have 500 unread articles left to go. 🙂

      two attempts later
The moment I installed the app on the new Cloudron instance and chose the same style of user management, the old app instance was installed back in the golden days of the internet, everything showed up.
So: there is no bug in the backup & restore functionality.

It's more about my expectations as a user who has gotten to know the "new kid on the block" - OIDC - which is my standard when installing apps. I never thought about the luckow of the past, who installed FreshRSS in a different way.

That sounds like a bug somewhere then. The app is using mysql and stores the added feeds there, so they should certainly be restored. Was any data at all restored into the cloned app?
