Low RAM Applications
-
One of the usual pain points on a server is the amount of RAM available.
Maybe there is a community somewhere which focuses on low requirements. Lubuntu is something like this in the Ubuntu world.
What about finding low RAM applications which fill a similar function to the ones available on Cloudron? We could even create some sort of tag for these to help people filter and decide what to use. (Can anybody think of a nice tag for this? RAM?)
Maybe there is a relevant framework which can be used to guide us?
As a practical example, perhaps the Free Software Vanilla Forum edition might be a contender for Forum software. I shall start a Wish request for it to get the ball rolling:

@loudlemur : when I started using Cloudron, I was worried about apps and their RAM needs. As I started using it more and periodically checking the Memory tab on the System Info page, I found it was surprisingly efficient.
I rarely go over 50-60% of RAM usage on the VPS. While it is 32Gb total now, it was the same when it was 16Gb and 8Gb (just fewer apps installed).
Your suggestion is good, but I am not sure it is too critical. Others' experiences may differ, but it seems to keep under control in my case.

@timconsidine Thanks, that is good to hear. I think it is quite natural when somebody discovers Cloudron to go wild installing things to try them and that takes quite a lot of RAM.
One other benefit of smaller applications is that there are often fewer lines where bad code could hide or where things could go wrong.
