    Hi all

    Having a weird problem with just one of my mail addresses. Actually it’s not even an address I really used, but an alias I created before moving over to Cloudron. Let’s call it netflix@example.com

    Problem is, that since yesterday my inbox gets kind of floated with mail delivery messages according this address. It’s pretty obvious, that some phisher or spammer is using this address as senders address, but due to mismatching SPF, rDNS, etc they don’t get delivered. Problem is, that I am getting those mailer daemon notifications all the time. Actually the spam filters are supposed to realize, that those are messages related to spam and therefore not show them, right? Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

    The address was never used as a sending address and nobody ever had access to it. It’s always been a forwarded alias and actually I am using many of those. But non of them cause any problems. Just this one particular address cause all those incoming mail delivery messages.

    As it’s an alias, I can just block all mails by filter and that’s it. But I would like to know what’s going on and whatever I did wrong. Will dmarc policy change anything and avoid those messages? I don’t want to block legit mail delivery messages.

      Spam filters don't block delivery status messages as they're needed for troubleshooting.

      If someone else decided to use your address as the From: to spam, there isn't much you can do to stop it, only deal with it (filtering, etc) or turn off delivery to that address until the campaign is over.

      Forged source headers will always bounce to the source, and yours happens to be deliverable. Sorry.
