Options for Audio/Video Surveys and "Passive" Communication
-
I am a part of a small organization that is interested in soliciting feedback from the community. There is added interest in providing the option for people to give feedback and answer questions by either voice or video. I am curious if anyone knows any open source tools to achieve this. Even better if it can be achieved through Cloudron somehow.
The way this often happens it the user's browser asks for access to the smartphone or pc's mic/camera and a message is recorded and saved.
Here is an example a services:
https://www.phonic.ai/While there is interested in using a tool like this for a survey, there is also interested in being able to exchange audio and video messages instead relying on in-person meetings and typing corrispondence when seeing to the administrative needs of the organization. People who cannot type well or who experience typing fatigue end up not participating as much. In fact we have lost a number of members as a result of this.
Rocketchat allows someone to send a audio message, but unless the person names it properly the audio message gets buried. Also rocketchat is best for "live" discourse. The organization is more accustomed to the pace of email and forums. These are much more passive forms of communication.
Much of the organization's activity revolves around hosting workshops. This past year has been a struggle. With the pandemic, we have moved towards hosting these workshops virtually. Mostly through Zoom. People being familiar with the platform and also break-out rooms were a deciding factor that lead to adopting zoom. But giving the nature of these activities, many of us wonder about using a LMS like Canvas or Moodle to host workshops or utilize a service like bigbluebutton. In addition to being able host the workshop, we believe this would enable us to more easily archive material. But also, many of these platforms provide the ability for teachers and students to submit audio/video content and responses related to material and classes. Teachers and students benefit from these tools because they help make learning more dynamic, but we also wonder if those tools might be able to help us use audio and video as a part of administrative and planning work. For instance, create a class instance within moodle, and use it much like an organizing forum.
Personally, I am always on the lookout for community/ social platforms that provide the tools to connect and organize around goals. I realize that there is not going to be just one tool, but a collection of tools.
But I would love to hear any ideas people might have about tools that might help.

I've always been impressed when my users find a way to leave me a message in a novel way, such as in Signal.org and the push-to-talk audio message. Similarly in Instagram.
A quick search yields:

@robi I have had the same experience, discovering a message that was sent to me months before.
I had not thought about using a PTT service. I think the one that shows the most promise with a quick glance is the discord sandbox, as discord allows people to communicate via text and also send files. But then there is the issue that is it active for some ( the tech savy) but passive for the people who are not.
Thanks for the info. I am going to look into it deeper.@atrilahiji I have seen elsewhere in the forum, that you are knowledgeable about Moodle. Do you think what I am thinking is possible even if a little crazy?
