QubesOS
-
QubesOS is a GNU+Linux Operating System which I think may be the future for secure computing. It has a great philosophy, which is worth a read:
https://www.qubes-os.org/intro/
It would probably be best to have QubesOS run on bare-metal, as effectively QubesOS is a Virtual Machine (VM).
One reason that QubesOS is so secure is that every application you run on it is a VM too. (A VM running in a VM!) For example, if you launch a web-browser like Firefox in QubesOS, you create a Firefox VM. When you close Firefox, the VM disappears. The VM can't contaminate anything outside its container. (There are settings to help you save states, if you decide to create bookmarks or something like that.)
It is for experienced users, but hopefully will become more in reach of ordinary people, and perhaps Cloudron might be able to help make that happen.

@loudlemur This is NOT something that would work with Cloudron at all.
The usecase for Qubes is certainly not to be used in a selfhosting setup.

this thread should be locked - QubesOS is a FULL operating system with it's own ecosystem and community and does not belong in Cloudron.
I also very much doubt it would work here.

@ruihildt I tried installing Qubes on a "spare" laptop.
Difficult, very fussy on hardware, and I don't think it is meant for containers.Cloudron is for apps, not OS's (how on earth does one spell the plural of an acronym : OSs ??)
EDIT : sorry, @ruihildt that should have been a reply to @LoudLemur

@loudlemur : as others have said, Qubes is not for Cloudron.
But it started me thinking. And of course 1st issue is what do you want to achieve ?
-
maybe Guacamole could do something (but the Cloudron deployment is a portal to other machines, not as I have seen sometimes a view onto machine running a remote desktop)
-
maybe one could package an app which is a Docker file containing only a bash terminal .... but why would one do that ?
This is definitely drifting in to a Discuss topic. Mostly I am unclear why one would want an "app" which behaves like a VM.
