I found out about this hosting provider while learning on Roadmap.sh.

It is even cheaper than hetzner. I can't believe it.

Contabo is not a scam and sure is cheaper than Hetzner.
It has been around for awhile now and definitely not a fly by the night operator.

I run a few sites on Contabo at their new Mumbai datacenter and I have no complains.
However, the wider consensus is that Contabo lacks in support and the servers might not be the most capable.
Hetzner IMHO has the best price-efficiency ratio for now.

I tried Contabo object storage but it was useless as they don't support virtual-hosted-style urls, only path-style

As it says here https://docs.contabo.com/docs/products/Object-Storage/technical-description/

Virtual Hosted Buckets are not supported. Path based buckets are being used. so e.g. eu2.contabostorage.com/bucketname is used instead of bucketname.eu2.contabostorage.com

If you search for Contabo on here you can also see quite a few people having issues installing on there etc. Personally I'd avoid.

Agreed. Although note: these days new Hetzner VPS cloud servers purchased by new customers automatically have email ports blocked to begin with.

I moved from contabo a few months back and haven’t regretted that decision. I had the vps L iirc (30ish gb ram plan) and I had multiple downtimes and frequent slow speeds. I’m on hetzners dedicated vcpu $12 cheapest plan and it’s amazing. Nvme disk speeds with contabo were reporting around 450mb/s in the CR dash while on herzner I’m getting over 1600mb/s. I can’t comment on uptime yet. US servers for both services.

I had no problem using Contabo Object Storage and VPS for Cloudron .. until Murphy's law enter the game:

• an outage in September broke availability in Nuremberg Data center and so my backups and my Cloudron instance were unavailable... Panic mode.... And nothing I could see or do. Contabo offered no support because their support page was broken too without failover... That tells a lot.

• few weeks later my dns resolution on Cloudron failed and causes all kind of issues and root cause was the default dns set by Contabo on my VPS, replacing them was needed.

• Object storage was flaky, causing backup issued on my Cloudron instance. Contabo fixed it on demand but without giving any explanation.

• my backup cleanup were always silently frequently failing in Cloudron for a while and only switching to Hetzner storage fixed that

I still have my VPS at Contabo and my backups at Hetzner but ideally I want to move away from Contabo.
By the way their admin panel is ugly. I do not recommend them other than for cheap non business critical and not performance critical stuff.

Thank you all for sharing. I also read some comments on Reddit. Nobody likes Contabo.
To be fair, Contabo should probably add "No" to their marketing claims, like "No Germany Quality, Always".
