    Hi everyone,
After trying so many other options on another VPS I have, I finally stopped and just installed Cloudron, and then Nextcloud.

I'm sticking with the free tier for this second Cloudron, so I can install only one other app. My NC currently is set to use 1GB ram. It's a 4.5GB ram VPS from Crunchbits.

So my question is... what app would be a good "companion" app for Nextcloud? I could use the base domain for Wordpress, I suppose. I don't think I can use a Federated app since those need something installed on the base domain anyway, making it three apps. I realize this is a bit of weird question, but I'm asking just in case there are any users out there who always install Nextcloud AND....

The NC is going to mainly just be another backup destination for various fonts, digital media, PDFs, etc.

    Thanks.

I guess one natural companion app would be one of onlyoffice or collabora office. If those are good enough for you to use.

Yes although you can also install collabora server inside Nextcloud which then allows you to use another app as a companion app on Cloudron. I guess it depends what you need to do / what functionality you think Nexcloud is missing. I'd say a webmail or a project management app are things I don't Nextcloud does too well but that's just for my use case.

Personally I use the SnappyMail Nextcloud app for my webmail, and also quite like the Deck app as a basic (but imho good enough for many use cases) project management app too 🙂

If you haven't tried using Shaarli yet for bookmarking, that is terrific and the people collaborating on the Nextcloud might like to also collaborate with their browser bookmarks.

There are some other and newer applications on Cloudron that might do bookmarking even better.

Isn't Shaarli single-user? How can people use it to collaborate with their browser bookmarks?

According to the Readme on Github:

It is designed to be personal (single-user), fast and handy.

Thank you all for suggestions, just the sort I was hoping might be made. The built-in Collabora is one example; the snappymail was another, though both of these are built into Nextcloud (from what I understand). Deck is another built-in example.

I was thinking there might be some apps which could access the files on Nextcloud, for example, like Wordpress hooking into the files in order to randomly display what's been uploaded, or for that matter, Omeka S. Do those, or others, have such interoperability? Others?

By using volumes, then all other apps, can access the content in Nextcloud files. For exemple, I have my music and photos sync with Nextcloud mounted as Volumes which are access by Pixelfed and Navidrome. So it really depends on what you want to do but all possibilities are there 🙂

@avatar1024 Yeah, this sounds cool. So, on this new 1TB server all I have is Cloudron and the NC app installed. Do I need to make a Volume on the 1TB server?

Or do I need a separate VPS (believe it or not, I do! I won a Crunchbits server on LET)? So I could use the new smaller CB server (120GB) for the Cloudron install, and then reinstall the current 1TB server to just be a blank Ubuntu 22 server, and then use the 1Tb as the Volume for the moved Cloudron NC and other app... correct?

I believe you can create a Volume in Cloudron from a local mount point (just a directory within you server) so you don't need to have the two separated.

In my case the Volume is a directory in a Hetzner Storage box so it is separated and mounted via SSHFS but it doesn't have to be the case.

Then the Volume needs to be attached to the Nextcloud app via the app settings in Cloudron.

My use-case is different from yours as I'm looking for control/privacy, so my homeserver has two free apps, Nextcloud & Vaultwarden. My VW has low resource usage despite the higher than default iterations setting which makes it perfect fit w/ my NC app.
