What's coming in 5.1

5.1 will be a quick release. There are a bunch of security related fixes but the main feature is the integration of turn addon/service into the platform. This will help us get the video conference apps in asap since it's the need of the hour.

I am very much looking forward to the TURN server integration. Great job, guys! Please also consider updating the Nextcloud package to include the TURN server configuration for Nextcloud Talk if possible.

Next thing on my wishlist for integrated services would be the - admittedly quite heavy performance wise - optional integration of an elasticsearch addon/service to allow for fulltext search in several apps (e.g. Nextcloud, etc.).

Yes the idea for Nextcloud will be to install the Talk addon by default and pre-setup that to use the turn server already, the addon can still be disabled if not wanted.

@nebulon You mean the nextcloud talk can be disabled and not turn addon right?

yes, within Nextcloud itself addons can be disabled rather than uninstalled. We will make sure it is installed so we can pre-configure it, but if not wanted users can disable it.

Excellent choice and and a great option to enable Talk by default to allow for auto provisioning of the TURN server setting in the database.
One more separate server (coturn) outside of cloudron I can get rid off!

@girish @nebulon I've just installed a fresh install of Cloudron and couldn't help note that it installed 5.1 - does that mean this new install I've just done has already got a turn server up and running?!?

yes, currently only kopano-meet and file-pizza make use of it though. More to come.

Guess I should have a play with Kopano Meet then! Has the unstable app in the app store been updated to use the new turn server already?

@jdaviescoates Yes, Kopano meet has been updated to use the new turn server. We want to get a couple of apps like nextcloud and jitsi/matrix quickly done as well, so we can test how well this works.

Ah, the Cloudron I've got a premium subscription for is still on 5.0.x (where can I find the version number?) and it seems the version of Kopano available there is from 2 months ago... so can't play just yet...(already got 2 apps set-up - Nextcloud and Only Office - on the free 5.1 Cloudron I've just installed)

@jdaviescoates Just sent you a mail from support but 5.1 is only available for those who want it badly Since it might contain bugs/regressions, we don't push it to existing cloudrons until after a week of testing. Also, the apps required for testing 5.1 are still being packaged (other than Kopano meet).

I have a test instance of Cloudron and could do some testing of 5.1 too. Should I email you with my Cloudron domain for you to trigger the update?

We are rolling out 5.1. There was an interesting security article at https://www.rtcsec.com/2020/04/01-slack-webrtc-turn-compromise/ . We have added that configuration to our turn setup as well.

We are rolling out 5.1.4 now. With this, matrix/riot will be available. (the apps are already packaged and published but the correct version won't appear until the cloudron has updated to 5.1.4).
