BTRFS snapshot based backups
-
On my server I am currently using EXT4 as filesystem but I thinking of switching to BTRFS cause I made some good experience backuping my VM-host rootfs with btrfs snapshots and btrbk.
So I thought it would be nice to use incremental BTRFS snapshots to backup large apps like Nextcloud directly with a BTRFS snapshot backup provider in Cloudron.
Is something like this planned for Cloudron?

In one of the early versions of Cloudron we actually did use that feature for app backups, however it caused too many side-effects and instabilities with btrfs that we had to stop using this.
While btrfs since then has made much progress, it is still not suitable for a server, which needs a rock-solid rootfs in my experience.

Fwiw, btrfs has been used for / for years now as default on OpenSUSE. This post sheds light on why, with XFS the default for /home, on that distro.
I started using the "snapper" snapshot tool on a btrfs / on a desktop machine in daily use just to get used to it, very happy so far - but not a vServer.
