Valid alternatives to Webcatalog?
-
@p44 sorry to hear your experience
I am a heavy user of Webcatalog and have not experienced any significant issues.
I'm on Mac, and don't have experience of Webcatalog on Windows.
(Small experience of Webcatalog on Linux and no problems there.)
They do regular updates - I guess you've checked you're on latest version. As to your question :
- I have used Fluid : it's nice, but a bit basic
- I tried Multi briefly, but didn't pursue it : no obvious problems that I can recall, just didn't warrant effort as Webcatalog performed fine
- I have used Unite and Coherence (same developer) : I had stability problems so moved to Webcatalog (but Unite and Coherence have done multiple upgrades since I tried them, so maybe stability is resolved)
TBH Webcatalog is pretty solid for me, and it's my 1st choice.
I have had a couple of issues on specific apps (e.g. Soundcloud) but given stability on other apps, I tend to think that issues are related to the app rather than to Webcatalog.Appreciate your experience is different, but my "go to" working environment is
- webcatalog (almost everything I run on the desktop runs in a webcatalog app)
- parallels desktop for other OS locally
- Kasm for other OS on remote VPS
- RemoteDesktopManager (free edtion) for managing VPS
Worth reporting problems to webcatalog support.
They have been responsive on the few occasions I have had to do so. -
FWIW my setup :

@p44
I use Firefox Portable, Containerise (not the Multi-Account-Container by Mozilla; only Containerise let's you assign urls from the same domain to different containers) and a userChrome.css as described here: https://forum.cloudron.io/post/17511 -
Dear @timconsidine,
many thank's for your patience. Me to I'm on a Mac.
They do regular updates but it seems that in last months they are struggling. Even customers support answers are very slow.
I had problems with ChatGPT, now I'm having problems with WhatsApp web, and daily I get problem with workspaces crashing. I tried to clean all installation and reinstall again, but problem still there.
I'll go to take a look to Unite and Coherence.
Thank's a lot for your patience.

@necrevistonnezr Thank's a lot, I'll go to take a look to Firefox Portable with Containerise add-on.

@timconsidine Today Webcatalog did a new update that broken all installed apps... I'm unable to start any application... with a generic Javascript error... All apps no longer run and I'm cut off from several things. I wonder how these apps can still remain on the market...
Anyway, I just installed Unite 5 Pro for Mac...
-
I can confirm, that after updating Webcatalog today all my Apps crash with JS Errors
-
@Kubernetes Not only this, but no any customer support at all... Horrible....
I bought Unite 5 Pro and configuring again spaces and tabs...
-
@Kubernetes I don't know... but this is the way how NOT to manage development... Of course, we (as users) will disappear
-
Same issue here. I am running Windows 10 and as of the update this morning I can no longer open any WebCatalog apps with an error message stating "A JavaScript error occurred in the main process." Hopefully they resolve this quickly if so many people are having it. It has otherwise worked well for me up until now.

My webcatalog apps were working fine on Mac up to Monday, been out of the office since.
Previously I have had good support from them, but not needed to ask recently.
Webcatalog is by default work environment / productivity enhancer so I hope all is well -
I just had new updates for my webcatalog apps and the errors are gone now.
-
Phew ! (Phew again for > 8 characters)
-
They released an update and now all is fixed...

Which license are you guys using? Iām thinking of going with the lifetime license but wondering if the cloud features would be good to have. A penny for your thoughts!
-
@humptydumpty I have the lifetime license. The cloud features are not relevant for my use cases.
-
@humptydumpty I have a lifetime licence.
Don't know what the cloud features are (backups?), but like @Kubernetes says, I don't have a need for them. -
@timconsidine yes, it's cloud backups/sync and priority support.
-
@humptydumpty I have lifetime license, but soon I will uninstall. I cannot trust them anymore.
I installed and trying Unite 5 Pro for Mac.
