- Summary: The world's first
decentralized and
federated video conferencing solution powered by the Matrix protocol.
- Notes: Users of the standard Element app on Cloudron are likely familiar with the embedded Jitsi Meet functionality. This dependency on an external service leads to friction when trying to host group calls. One major one impacting my organization is the lack of screen sharing support on the Element desktop applications for the embedded Jitsi Meet application. There are also serious stability issues when it comes to the embedded Jitsi Meet application, as well, with frequent crashes and disconnects. The Element Call application is native to Matrix, can be embedded into the standard Element application in place of Jitsi Meet, and allows for federated video conferencing. Cloudron is a perfect platform to allow for small organizations to host their own instances of Element call, and communicate with one another directly, without the need of common centralized video conferencing software like Zoom, nor the need of creating Cloudron accounts for every user who wishes to participate in a call.
