Cloudron/Nextcloud Integration Update and NC App Questions
-
Just recently installed a NC instance with Cloudron. So easy! I have some questions.
-
For NC apps that came with the Cloudron install... can I update them at
settings/apps/app-bundles
or should I wait for the Cloudron update to the app? -
What about NC apps that don't come with Cloudron's NC install. I remember reading somewhere that folks were advised not to install apps that don't come with Cloudron's package of NC. But there are really basic apps that don't come with the Cloudron's NC package, such as calendar and contacts. What is the latest thinking on this.
Thx

I'd say go for it on updating Apps when you see updates available, as Cloudron updates are just for the core. Just be aware of possible regressions, so make sure your users have a coms channel for feedback on any bugs.
As far as choosing what Apps to use with NC, any that you will actually use but don't try to get it to do everything if there's a better and more specialist separate app alternative, NC is strongest as a File Server, the rest is relative.

@shai Feel free to update the plugins/apps as needed.
As @marcusquinn , use plugins judiciously A single plugin is enough to bring down the entire instance and it's a pain to fix things. We put a warning in our docs about this - https://docs.cloudron.io/apps/nextcloud/#plugin-warning . That said, nothing in Cloudron or the app package stops you from installing as many plugins as you want.

Work smarter by trying plugins in a separate NC install, and if all is well deploy them in the production one.
Similarly ensure you have a recent backup you can restore to in case of unexpected issues.
Those two things along will keep most troubles away from production users.
