    What I know from different calendar views like SoGO or Thunderbird is my so called "swimlane" view:

    I have no idea if there's an RFC for this, but my use case for all-day events is something like: Trade Fair 04. – 06. (all-day) and specific appointments with separate entries on the same day. Or "Vacation" in another calendar. Imagine displaying the vacation dates for the entire team as an overlay on your "normal" calendar.
