Hi all

Overnight 5 of the apps dissapeared:

• Ente
• Element Server Suite (Community)
• TaxHacker
• MollySocket
• Nextcloud Talk HPB
• Hermes Agent

Anybody has any info on what would happen if a person stops maintaining an app and another developer can take over - and the apps could continue updating (or atleast we can change something in the apps backend so that the location of the .json is modified to the latest url).

@creative567145 Those are maintained by me. There was a problem with my GitLab instance which got them disconnected from the community App Store. This is now resolved and all should work again.

Since CI/CD is really taking care of most of the work, I’m not planning on discontinuing these any time soon unless upstream changes require work I’m not able to put in. In that case I’d inform the community and ask if anyone is interested in taking over. Installed apps would continue to function regardless of maintaining updates. These repos are also public so anyone can clone them and continue the work whenever they want.

This depends on the creator of the community app.
If a community app is abandoned the owner of the repository would need to give someone access to maintain it as is.
Same case with @andreasdueren, his private GitLab server, his responsibility. If it goes down, it is down.
So if you depend on a community app for a production environment it would be smart to keep a clone or fork of the original repository.

It is possible to update apps manually with the cloudron cli, but you also lose the auto update feature by doing so.
Changing the URL of the CloudronVersions.json is currently not natively supported, but possible.

I just tested it with this community app: https://ca.cloudron.io/app/meilisearch
Installed the app, and it got the appid c14d0260-3b2d-4486-98be-3c2e8b55576f.
The official URL is https://raw.githubusercontent.com/OrcVole/meilisearch-cloudron/main/CloudronVersions.json and the latest version is 1.3.0.
I took the file and uploaded it to my LAMP app and copy-pasted the 1.3.0 object and changed it to 1.3.1 https://lamp.cloudron.dev/apps/meili/CloudronVersions.json
With an ssh connection to the Cloudron server I can execute the following SQL command:
