https://lemmyverse.net/?order=activeCensorship is happening on Lemmy by way of de-Federation. As a consequence, some people want to run their own Lemmy servers so as to be in charge of which communities they are able to join. (Though in turn, this puts their own server at risk of being de-Federated.)

I think the fact it's possible to do this on the fediverse is a feature, not a bug

@jdaviescoates Yep, but not a very attractive feature. If ONE community on a different server goes bezerk, and the admin of your server chooses to de-federate, ALL communities of the different servers are gone for you. Of course, you can open an account on the de-federated server afterwards but then this whole federation thing gets pointless.
