      Situation: I would like to offer a centralized, live public calendar to which people could subscribe in order to receive an alert when events they have filtered are about to happen. For example, if you subscribed to a streamer, and the streamer was about to go live, the calendar would push a notification to the subscribers.

      Task:
      Viewers: Visit site, select the streamers for which they would receive notifications, then receive an alert when those events are about to air.

      Streamers: Visit site, enter details, update broadcast times when needed.

      When I looked at this before, it seemed that Bedeworks and RSS might be the best way to accomplish something like this, but Bedework
      seemed to be abandoned and was difficult to understand.

      https://www.apereo.org/projects/bedework

      A Public NextCloud calendar might be a way of accomplishing some of this, but I am not sure if it would allow people to subscribe to it or push them notifications. (Presumably by email...)

      Does anybody have any suggestions on how to try this?

        @LoudLemur I'd try using discourse with it's calendar plugin

        I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

            @jdaviescoates Thanks to the good people here, I was able to setup the Discourse calendar. I have not yet had a chance to use it yet, but was curious and checked NodeBB. It has a calendar plugin too:
            https://github.com/pitaj/nodebb-plugin-calendar

            Has anybody tried using that plugin? What did you think of it?

              @jdaviescoates

              There is a beta events plugin that is due for release in Novemeber:

              https://meta.discourse.org/t/events-integration-plugin-beta/241170

              By the way, I am struggling with this silly problem here, if you have a moment:

                  @jdaviescoates Thanks incredibly for suggesting this method! The NodeBB plugin works well. A reboot is required and you need to enable the plugin too.

                  The calendar application is beautiful: full calendar, with some humane licencing.
