Which document collaboration software?

Hi,

I’d like to use some software to collaborate on documents and some notes. It should be more like a „pad“ style rather than a rich document software like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Nextcloud Office, etc.

Which to choose? What are the benefits? Which one runs smoothly? What do you prefer?

I think I have to chose between: Ctyptpad, EtherPad, HedgeDoc

@jayonrails if you're also going to be using Nextcloud anyway, Nextcloud Text is worth considering too.

Also note that there are lots of plugins/ addon for Etherpad to make it less bare bones.

But I mostly just use Nextcloud Text (and Notes, which is the same thing), or Nextcloud with OnlyOffice for rich text stuff myself so don't have any good experience to share.

Hopefully others do.

Nextcloud Text seems to require a login to be used and create a document? This is not what I am looking for. I am looking for some „hack in some plain or Markdown text“ solution.

I’ll check EtherPad and in the meantime maybe some other people will share their opinion, too.

for Nextcloud Text, which is Markdown and multi-user collaborative. You can make public folders and files therein, if you want.

Or creating New users is easy. just don't fill i the password field, and Nextcloud will email them the register link for them to set their own password.

Hedgedoc is decent too.

There is also documize which is still unstable. It's a confluence alternative. I don't have much experience with the app though.
