I'm sure others are having a better experience, but ...

      • constant push to log in to a LT account annoys me
      • limited desktop support (only BigTech doc formats)
      • seems ridiculous to have to open browser to check text written in plain text editor
      • cannot use the desktop editor app with own instance (as far as I can see)
      • self-hosted instance should have its own text window for pasting in content to be checked (not Cloudron's fault, upstream issue)
Maybe I am having a bad day, but what's the point of this useless app
Doesn't support true self-hosting deployment IMHO
Open to any corrections of misunderstanding

I am using it every day mostly through the Firefox extension, setup to my personal instance and it is great. For desktop apps on Linux I also haven't found a way to make it use though.

I never used LanguageTool with Cloudron or last 1-2 yrs but when I used it 3-4 years ago regularly it provided excellent results and there was a LibreOffice plug-in so it's not limited to .docx.

The firefox plugin and Libreoffice integration cover all my needs. My only gripe with LT is that it's resource heavy just to have some grammar fixed (1.8GB RAM and 15.8GB Disk, ouch!).

@timconsidine Are you using a web interface or something? I think it's main purpose is as a headless service, and you use the apps/plugins/addons to use that private instance, as opposed to their public one.

The main and probably only difference being their public free service is character limited, whereas the self-hosted isn't.

I pay for Pro, as I use some of those extras, but maybe this way of looking at it will yield you the utility without the issues?

I don't use the web interface much but use the Firefox extension everyday, works great.

Would be nice if they actually said that
I do a lot of work in the browser, but not Firefox or Chrome
The writing I really need to check is not generated in a browser.
So it's ridiculous to open a browser with a plugin just for the purpose of checking the text.
