Well, I've just configured SMTP2Go in my Cloudron. I've got 2 domains managed by my Cloudron. So far test emails seem to have worked, so hoping it'll work going forward.
Thank you everyone for your input!

After some time, Girish has added extra code that would increase re-tries count and timeouts, so eventually B2 started working, more or less.
With this said, I've just switched over to Hetzner and will see how that will work for me. Don't feel like paying money to B2 if their backend is overloaded and constantly results in various issues.
Wasn't aware git was available in the terminal for each application. Once I cloned the repo directly into RoundCube filesystem and then followed the instructions, everything was easy and simple.
For few years I've been hosting my Cloudron on Azure. I've been using SendGrid (with their free plan) to send me emails, and everything worked fine. Recently I got a notification from SendGrid saying that they discontinue free plans, so I'm trying to understand what my options for email sending are.
I would appreciate any advice from the community here. If possible I'd prefer something with as little tracking / snooping as possible, but then again, not sure if this is relevant any longer in our times.
I don't think I can use the built-in Cloudron email server to send emails when hosting in Azure. Well, I think technically it is allowed, but there are limitations and potential issues afaik. Cloudron doesn't support Azure Communication Services for email relay - at least I don't see it in the list of available outbound relays.
Thank you all in advance!
@joseph I cannot even fathom how switching off IPv6 would help with this issue, but since you're saying that backup task uses MySQL db and connects to it - who knows, maybe IPv6 might have some effect there.
I've checked logs for mysql. There are few of them there zipped and they all are 0 bytes / empty, even on the days when backup task fails.
Backup keeps failing - in the past 4 days it succeeded only once. This is getting really annoying as not having backups for DR is a problem.
@lucidfox Thank you for the link - I'll check it out in more detail for sure. I presume none of these providers add anything to the emails (eg. footers, ads, html tags, etc)?
@josephcosta Thank for you more details. Makes sense if emails are used for customer communication and marketing. My needs are purely personal.
Actually I've discovered Cloudron back in 2018 or 2019, as a self-hosted alternative to Google Apps - so self-hosted email had been my #1 goal and still is very high on my list.
@BrutalBirdie Yes, you can. And FYI - all previously existing app passwords no longer work after OIDC migration. I can create new ones.
@jdaviescoates Yep, essentially I do the following (I've added 5-6 plugins, not sure why they are not added by default by Cloudron devs):
chown -R www-data:www-data PLUGIN_DIR_NAME
array_push($config['plugins'], 'twofactor_gauthenticator');
@necrevistonnezr Completely agree with you. Boggles my mind. I too think features like 2FA and Captcha should be built-in.
Hi everyone,
I haven't paid attention to Rainloop for so long and just realized I need to move to SnappyMail. I have a lot of filters configured via Rainloop. Installing SnappyMail I see those filters appearing under Settings -> Filters -> Click on "Simple" entry and a popup with my Rainloop filters comes up.
My question is - will these filters survive removal of Rainloop or some sort of cleanup will be run when Rainloop is removed? Essentially I want to keep my filters when moving to another mail client.
Thanks.
@jdaviescoates Wasn't sure if I could get to the source of those filters, as in Rainloop I was using UI controls to define them. But it seems there is a way to get those via SnappyMail. Shall see.
Hi guys,
I've been using Backblaze for backups for some time now. Lately have been seeing issues with a lot of automated backups just stalling and not finishing - navigating to Backups screen shows a backup task in progress with some random step it's at and it wouldn't time out (today it was sitting there after 9 pm, while the backup is scheduled to kick off at 1 am).
Happens about 50-60% of the time lately - for example over the past week I had only couple successful automated backups. I've planned on upgrading from 7.x to 8.x and it took me 3 or 4 attempts over the weekend before a backup finally went through. So I could then finally upgrade my Cloudron.
Using basic .tgz format for backups (seems to be the fastest way).
What I see in backup logs is the following:
2024-09-23T15:07:18.019Z box:database Connection 194 error: Packets out of order. Got: 0 Expected: 2 PROTOCOL_PACKETS_OUT_OF_ORDER
2024-09-23T15:07:18.020Z box:database Connection 195 error: Packets out of order. Got: 0 Expected: 2 PROTOCOL_PACKETS_OUT_OF_ORDER
2024-09-23T15:07:18.021Z box:database Connection 197 error: Packets out of order. Got: 0 Expected: 2 PROTOCOL_PACKETS_OUT_OF_ORDER
I've seen something very similar before.
Not sure if Backblaze is to blame - I've had some issues with them few months ago, when I couldn't properly access my files via their website. After a ticket things started working fine, but it's been couple of month since then. And if they are to blame, I'd appreciate some guidance on where / how I can obtain logs / details that would prove it's them and not me.
Thank you!
@girish Thanks for adding WG to the mix. However I'm going to be one who's asking for more. There is a WG fork called AmneziaWG. Have you guys heard about / looked at Amnezia at all?
The big problem with popular VPN solutions is that they are very easily detectable, so when people need to circumvent tyrannical governments, these VPN solutions become useless. AmneziaWG introduces obfuscation thus overcoming DPI systems (at least at present). Since AmneziaWG is based off regular WG, my understanding is that it's not far off in terms of implementation. I just started looking at AmneziaWG and so far seen couple of ways of deploying it on a VPS - one of those is questionable to me, another one seems a bit more secure.
@sixguns Thank you for mentioning that provider. Why are you paying for it - it seems they offer a "free" plan? It that to remove their "branding" (I'm guessing here, but that's the only reason I can see based on their plans comparison).
I also presume you've configured it via "External SMTP Server" option in Cloudron?
@djxx Sorry, I don't know what you mean exactly. If we're talking about backup configuration, then I have memory limit set to 1.5GB and upload part size to 10MB. Don't think I've changed any of these values, when setting up Backblaze as a target.
If what your second message says about RAM required > projected backup size, then I would see it as a problem with Cloudron. I cannot imagine how that could be the case with installs with data in tens of gigabytes in size. @nebulon is that really the case?
My backups are about 6.5 GB, if I were to trust Backblaze console.

Did Netflix detect your VPN
I'm guessing so. I wasn't clear why it didn't work, but it didn't. Was a long time ago now so can't remember the details.
A lot of providers detect data center based IP, which automatically gives away VPN usage. Additionally there are other ways of detecting a VPN connection. MTU comes to mind, if I'm not mistaken. So, having an IP in a country doesn't guarantee success.
@scooke said in WireGuard is now available:
Spin up a cheap VPS anywhere else in the world, install Cloudron, and then Wireguard on the free tier, and voila, you now have an IP in that country.
Why would you want to bother with Cloudron when there are plenty of simple scripts that install OpenVPN and/or Wireguard and allow you to easily add/manage clients?
@ccfu Thank you for the suggestion. Sigh, it seems there are no free providers for personal email sending anymore - Postmark is $15/mo ;(
@Nozy Thanks for letting me know about IPv6. Didn't event think whether it's enabled or not, and turns out it is.
Would turning it off have any detrimental effects on Cloudron, do you know? Do I need to be aware of something before switching it off?
@jdaviescoates said in Nextcloud Notes no longer synchronizes:
@bazinga I've only just updated my main Nextcloud to OIDC (which I am actually pleased about as it's overall a better and more secure experience) so I'll presumably hit this too... which will be annoying as I use notes a lot too... I wonder does creating an app password within Nextcloud as per the guide for Calendars etc help? see https://forum.cloudron.io/topic/10067/guide-external-nextcloud-with-openid-social-login-calendar-caldav-synchronization
More secure? Well, that is if Cloudron's IdP is secure and everything is done to specification standards. Authentication isn't a walk in the park, that's why there is literally a tiny number of products out there that can be relied upon.
I've always used app passwords from Nextcloud for any Android apps (Notes, DavX, Nextcloud client). With OIDC my apps no longer could use those app passwords. I've checked the link you've referenced and it seems it's all about creating and using those passwords that Nextcloud manages.
I just tried to create a test app password in NextCloud - doesn't work, nothing happens like it did before. Clicking on that "Create new app password" button does nothing.
I'm very frustrated with this situation. I use Notes a lot. I was already dreading the experience of dealing with this Nextcloud auth integration change as I have to guide few family members half way across the globe on how to make all of the changes to NextCloud, DavX, Calendars, etc... And now this issue. Sigh.
