Darkmode in the forum

hey guys,

is there no option to build in or activate a darkmode here in the forum?
Thought most of us are more nightly active... cannot keep the tab open for long.. quite a downer in terms of bug report writing

@fanvyr I think it's supposed to automatically adjust to system settings, but it doesn't.

There is a Darkly theme you can select though.

how? saw its built in with harmony nodeBB theme, but... hm
can you use it?! How to activate?

ah, you can select a different personal skin, there are about 4 kind-of darky skins.. forum/user/[username]/settings

not sure if this are my settings, haven't touched those in ages, but you should see some skin selector with various dark skins in the bottom left here:

Though to be honest I am longing especially for a "follow system" mode, since I toggle between bright and dark mode based on daylight, and switching nodebb skins is far from great.

@nebulon for a while there was a little lightbulb icon that could be clicked to switch between light and dark, but I guess some nodebb update made it disappear

yes, I had installed that addon back then, but this isn't available anymore. Or wasn't...let me check

Yeah we used https://github.com/psychobunny/nodebb-plugin-night-mode but that is unmaintained by now

Yeah, the skins do help a little, but they all.... well suck to be honest haha.
Bringing back somekind of built-in darkmode / toggle would be amazing, but depends on NodeBB - i get it. A quick research did not show any current discussions there... only that its "available in harmony" which is not really true though...

I use the darkreader plugin for sites that don't have dark mode and have it set on a schedule. Sometimes it makes text hard to read as it gets the color inversion wrong, but overall it's pretty good.

You can easily disable it for certain sites with a single click (marked in red). The on/off buttons are for the entire plugin. The "configure automation" is where you set the schedule.
