Friendica - A Decentralized Social Network

What I had read so far is that there is the need to install matrix, then perhaps mastodon for microblogging.
What is the blogging pendant, what do you prefer? They are all great project. Personally I don't really blog, but, I use mainly WordPress with indieweb plugins and JetPack even if it is not the best, the plugin is pretty stable an allow me to reach a larger audience (FB/IN).
Depend of what is your goal, personnaly having a "website/blog" for business you want a big number of user, because maybe 10% will see you post, than 10% of this 10% will click on it than 10% of this 10% will take the time to read it and 10% of those readers will potentially leave a comment. So if your network has 10 000 peoples than potentially one person will leave you a comment.
While pro writer take around 3 hours to write 3000 words, it take me 12-18 hours; I hope passing all these time for more than 10 peoples.

So the question how many will follow ?
@JOduMonT What in your opinion is the best way a FOSS based blogging and microblogging?
What I had read so far is that there is the need to install matrix, then perhaps mastodon for microblogging.
What is the blogging pendant, what do you prefer?Blogging : I use WithKnown (ex Idno) with built-in indieweb to blog & push to silo networks (twitter & different mastodon accounts)
Micro blog : I use Mastodon
Matrix chat: have matrix running too and can be joined at rick:rmendes.net -
@robi looks like @rmdes is running Known on the LAMP stack:
https://forum.cloudron.io/post/7734
Be nice if there were an actual app for it though!
-
@jdaviescoates yep running it via the LAMP stack but really wish this was a cloudron app, using postgres instead of mysql and with redis enabled, then if the app could use the composer env of how Known is currently being developed that would really be neat for upgrades

WithKnown
withKnown is very efficient too to share with other network
I guest to help the question I raised earlier:
Friendica: it focus on Federation: if you the goal is to inter connect with other network such as FB, Twitter, Mastodon, ...
Hubzilla: if the goal is to focus on privacy and close group- Hubzilla is decentral publishing of all kinds of things with a fine rights management. - Friendica is decentral social networking with a fine management of who you socialize with and connections to many other social networks.

Would be sooooo good to have frindica as a supported app for cloudron !
Two friends tied to make it work on cloudron and not getting it work with LAMP....
Please, make it a cloudron App !
It is so important to have the option of an easy to install decentrelized social network ....and is so much needed in our current situation !
Who can help to make it work ?
-
There are so many people ready to leave facebook...and friendica would be an easy to install alternative, if there would be a docker for cloudron...
someone started a while ago...
https://github.com/M-arcus/friendica-docker-image -
I just found this:
https://friendi.ca/2020/01/11/friendica-now-has-an-official-docker-image/
perhaps its now much easier to build a docker for cloudron and make friendica a cloudron app ? -
Did anyone get this to work?
-
@YurkshireLad It works great in the lamp app!
-
@DanTheMan I forget the exact steps, but Friendica requires a 5-min cron job to run, this can be done in lamp by adding the cron string to a file in /app/data (I think just crontab?? I can't find info on it anymore but I know the feature was there a while back)

Thanks guys for all the great support and info
I have tried to make it happen. But after uploading the extracted (full friendica zip) content to the lamp stacks public folder, i only see a php page on the subdomain I have created with the lamp stack?
I have followed up this guide..
https://friendi.ca/resources/installation/
There's a section there in the guide that says: "Additionally, rename .htaccess-dist to .htaccess if youβre using the Apache web server."
I did change that file before uploading to the stacks public folder.I must say that i have been successful last week, by installing a lamp stack with Prestashop on it. It's been running smoothly since then.
The silly thing is i am doing the same thing here with Friendica as i did with Prestashop last week. Unzip, extract and upload to the public folder of the Lamp stack. From there it was just a web based setup.
