Looking for a Federated Customer Review Platform
-
I'm looking for a customer review platform that won't hold me hostage to overpriced plans for reviews that I've earned from MY products/services. Are there any good open source or federated platforms? Does something like this even exist? Think Matrix but for customer reviews.

@humptydumpty upvote these:
Astuto - https://github.com/riggraz/astuto

https://forum.cloudron.io/post/2140Fider looks like the best bet out of these.

@humptydumpty ah, but actually, I think I misinterpreted - you want something like Commento but as a replacement for Trusted Reviews etc, is that right?
-
@jdaviescoates Precisely. Looking for a Commento/Disqus/TrustPilot/etc. replacement.

This is not exactly what you desire, but very hopeful Matrix-based project here that might work. At least adds decentralized comments/responses as a nice embed.

@sysadmin This is exactly the concept that I've envisioned. It lacks an integration with Woocommerce so I could have "verified" (& federated) customer reviews but this looks extremely promising. I'm glad this is being developed. Thank you for posting this!
For those interested and have a Matrix instance up, here's the guide to self-hosting Cactus. It connects to your Matrix instance and needs guest registration be enabled so that Cactus can register a guest account so the comments can be pulled and read by non-logged in users. I'm guessing guest registration can be disabled after Cactus is set up.

@humptydumpty In addition to the self-hosted solution you can use their public backend server for free as well https://cactus.chat/docs/getting-started/quick-start/
I am almost sure you are already aware, but just incase thought I'd add that. Definitely good to know if you are in a pinch and can't run one yourself! I believe it simply lets your own matrix user become a moderator for any rooms created by your comment sections.
Cheers
