If you are running Mastodon and would like to leverage an open relay I'm running to help ... relay, please reach out to me and I'll share the address.
Open relays are allow smaller instances to become more connected by relaying their traffic to other participants. The biggest one, mastodon.host recently went offline which severely hampered smaller shops.BTW - this relay also works for any app that uses ActivityPub, so almost everyone.

@doodlemania2 I'm just in the process of setting up a new instance. I wonder if I could ask your opinion about something. I'm partial to a shorter address for the users, leaning towards @me@example.com, rather than @me@mastodon.example.com. Is there a good critical reason to use a three part domain for the Mastodon url (mastodon.example.com), or can I just stick with the shorted one?
I wouldn't mind including your relay. I'll pop the details in two instances at first, but I think I will eventually just stick with one. Thanks!

@scooke it seems totally fine to use shorter - i don't see any issue at all as long as you configure your well known locations in the cloudron setup so fediverse works
