Prioritize restored apps in restore state to minimize downtime on most important parts of business
-
It’d be great to be able to prioritize the order of backups/restore functions. For example, for some people mail will be the most critical which means it should be restored first, but for some they may find certain web apps more critical (such as an E-commerce store). May also have different SLAs with their customers. While this could be a bit of a fringe scenario, I think it’d be great even if to simply pick the top two or three most important “apps” that we want restored first.
In some cases, there’s a lot of data and it can easily take 30-60+ minutes to restore a server from some s3 storage option, and it’d be great if we could have a bit of a say on what gets restored first to reduce impact to customers.
PS - I thought this was filed already but I couldn’t find it. Please excuse me if I’m duplicating anything.
PPS - I suppose to some extent this may be easily worked around if we can setup the other server first with a dry run, then make the network/DNS changes when we’re ready, but I’m always so scared of missing important messages like email for example when I have to then do an rsync between old and new server to bring them in sync again after the restore point.
