and K-9 Mail gets a new stable release

Have you ever tried FairEmail? I've been using this instead of K-9 Mail after the development stopped and I like it a lot. Maybe you like it too and it'll bring you one step closer to self-hosting emails 🙂

No I haven't. Thanks for the reminder 🙂

I'm also thinking of trying /e/ at some point and they also have their own fork of K-9:

    https://gitlab.e.foundation/e/apps/mail

I've no idea what it's like though, and it looks like FairMail is much more actively maintained:

@avatar1024 I just tried FairEmail, nice that it managed to pick up the SMTP/IMAP server automatically of my Cloudron mailbox thanks to the email autoconfiguration we have in place now ! The UI is a bit rough, but can confirm it works. I will go back to K-9 I think.

I just switched to it, overall I think it's much better than K9 so just upgraded to pro version too.

            Thanks for the recommendation 🙂

@necrevistonnezr The direct from GitHub .apk version works better anyway 🙂

Edit: oh, SHIT, but if he can't get it working via PlayStore (which is where the vast majority of people get it from) he's thinking about quiting the project completely! Noooooo! 😢

Yes and also apk outside the Play store may not be an option on work phones etc.

I'm not so personally worried about that, but:

I have removed all my apps from the Play store and I will stop supporting and maintaining my apps. Google won.

                    Good luck.

But I not totally sure all hope is yet lost as he's still engaging in that thread...

Hopefully he'll decide to keep maintaining and developing it... 🤞 🙏
