Multicore vs Single-Core

Hi all
Sorry, didn't know how to phrase it any better. I don't really understand how/if Cloudron is utilizing Multi-CPU-Cores. So I am wondering if - generally speaking - a server running multiple cores but on a lower frequency is better than a CPU with less cores but a higher frequency. What is more important - number of cores or frequency per core, even if less cores?
Sorry for any confusion - not a native english speaker.
