Does CalDAV and CardDAV sync work without the web apps?
-
I see there's a warning in the Nextcloud documentation against installing apps. But I want to use Nextcloud calendar and contacts to sync everybody's desktop and mobile devices.
So will CalDAV and CardDAV sync work fully without installing the calendar and contacts apps?
I've downloaded and installed the macOS/iOS configuration profile on my mac; the calendars and contacts appear to be working but I don't know if sync is actually working and calendar and event creation in Calendar.app feels very buggy/unstable. Contact creation in Contacts.app can feel a bit unstable or delayed too.

Those two Nextcloud apps work fine, I also personally use them. The warning in the docs is mostly there since installing Nextcloud apps which are less maintained resulted in app update issues in the past. Calendar and Contacts are very stable though.

Okay, thank you. It appears that calendar and contacts sync does work without them though. Will there be any advantage to installing the apps other than being able to verify that sync is working?

Thanks nebulon.
For anybody following this, I did have to install the apps to get sync up and running properly. The automated configuration file didn't work for some reason.
At the very least I had to follow these instructions precisely (including making device-specific passwords):
