I am guessing I am not the first one to say this, but is there a workaround I need to know about with Firefox not showing or playing videos in rocketchat?
I have to keep telling all my users to use Google Chrome, so they can play and watch videos in the threads, which is a bit of a pain.

Is this a Firefox thing or a rocketchat thing?

The videos get converted into WebM format.

Am I missing something, or is this an ongoing problem for everyone?

I am using the free version, but I have noticed the support for video for other browsers is pretty bad.

      Many thanks

I'd guess a Firefox privacy thing.

@necrevistonnezr well, um, pretty sure it is a privacy thing actually 😉 stopping YouTube from tracking you

FF these days has so many default „protection“ that you can hardly use it as a proper browser. Even on this forum, there are many bug reports which just turned out to be… Firefox.

In my experience this is less a firefox issue as such, but users manually selecting security options causing side-effects. On top of this various security extensions, which may cause more trouble than actual use.

                  Mostly agreed, although:

I'm wondering if I have the wrong redirect_uris here:

                  Screenshot from 2023-10-06 10-25-57.png

I did have that wrong, but even after correcting it still wasn't working... on Firefox.

But then worked fine when I tried it on my vanilla install Chrome instead!

(@necrevistonnezr ha! although I also had both ublock origin and Privacy Badger still running - so could've easily been them.... Edit: nope, same thing happened with them turned off too 🤦 )

So standard troubleshoot answers are now:

                    • use a different browser
                    • clear browser cache
                    • stop using that nextcloud/wordpress/[something something] plug-in/add-in
                    • restart unbound and / or box service

                    😬

It is the right answer, I think.
