You need to make sure the VM layer is not blocking any CPU features, or needs to have these enabled.

@robi Hi there, I don't think it is blocking anything do you know how I'd be able to check on virtualbox or is there a better alternative for vmware?

@xbxyii In VMware ESX/Workstation, if you're using an older VM hw version, it can exclude such a feature. See if there is an upgrade available, or create a new VM with the latest configuration and validate you have access to AVX instructions with a liveCD.
