And I don't even mean you can no longer actually watch videos (that's been broken for a while). I mean a newly installed instance of this app doesn't even run.

Thinking perhaps @staff should maybe just remove it from the app store?

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

My instance is also down since recent youtube changes apparently. Lets see if upstream comes up with fixes in some time, if not we have to delist it unfortunately, yes.

While YT continues it's mandatory intrusive unskippable ads, it doesn't work well. However it does have a link to the YT vid for not just being stuck.

Piped had worked around this issue several times and can skip some of the ads.
However now YT is demanding signing-in to prove you're not a bot, which is solvable with a login or api key.

Published a new package with latest sig helper for the time being it solved the issue at least on my instance.

The latest package runs for me at least. But videos still don't play. I guess perhaps YT has blacklisted the IP of my server 🤷

@jdaviescoates If you had a cloudron on a residential IP that would be a neat test, however it's not just you.

The app can't load videos since YT does a bunch of bot checks, asks for login and inserts mandatory ads that make the app think it's broken playing something it didn't ask for (bait and switch).

Yes in most cases Youtube seems to block requests not coming from residential IPs with this approach.
