Wireguard not connecting
-
Trying to use my android with wireguard. Renamed the suffix to .conf and imported. No Internet connection when I'm using it. Tried different Internet connections. Nothing working. Used Rethink and it shows it failing to connect. Used OpenVPN before but it's not working now (???).

Fresh install. Haven't been able to use a laptop yet. I'll double check the app config but I'm almost sure it should be (idk what this even means) configured correctly.
Edit: Saw something about cloudflare proxying, I disabled that. Still cannot connect. Hmm.
Edit 2: Reinstalled the app. Disabled proxy in CF BEFORE I made a VPN file. Works now. Weird. Yay, adblocking and VPN without needing Adguard.

How do you not need Adguard?
RethinkDB uses Wireguard as a proxy. It also has firewall and Adblocking stuff. It's like Adguard on steroids and it's free.

I guess you’re talking about RethinkDNS at https://rethinkdns.com/ (with „paid plans coming soon“)?
RethinkDB (https://rethinkdb.com/) is a different software… -
BTW Traffic not going through is a known problem with RethinkDNS, see https://www.kuketz-blog.de/rethinkdns-tutorial-auf-unbestimmte-zeit-verschoben/ (quite a famous German IT blog):
The tutorial for RethinkDNS scheduled for the first quarter of 2024 has been postponed indefinitely. Even after the release of version 0.5.5c, RethinkDNS still has some annoying bugs. Personally, I can react to this and find workarounds - but an average user will be overwhelmed with it.
Attached are some of the bugs I noticed:
Function not available: Under the universal firewall rules, the option Block any app that is not in use is available. However, to activate this function, permission must be given under Accessibility/Accessibility. Since version 0.5.5c this is no longer possible, it only appears the note For security reasons this setting is currently not available. In version 0.5.5a this problem did not yet exist. [There is a solution for this]
DNS issues: When switching from WiFi to the mobile network, DNS requests continue to be sent to the internal DNS server of the WiFi network and not to the wireless operator's DNS servers. Only after under RethinkDNS -> Network -> Choose IP version -> Auto is set, the correct DNS server (of the mobile phone provider) is requested. This problem did not yet exist in version 0.5.5a.
Airplane mode: If the Android Continuously Active VPN function is enabled and the device is in flight mode, apps such as K-9 Mail, ntfy, Feeder etc. continue to try to connect even though no network is available. Where exactly the error lies, it is not clear to me at this point. Whether to RethinkDNS or to a bug e.g. with the WorkManager.
WireGuard: Overall very flawed. Often no traffic flows through the tunnel, even though it is set up.
In view of these and other bugs, I currently think it makes more sense to wait for further development than to create a tutorial. In the end, frustration would prevail and that can't be my goal.
