- Main Page: https://github.com/CaviraOSS/pagelm
- Git: https://github.com/CaviraOSS/pagelm
- Licence: CaviraOSS Community License — free for personal and educational use; commercial use or resale requires prior written permission
- Dockerfile: Yes (used by the Docker Compose setup)
- Docker-compose: Yes
- Demo: No public demo available
- Summary:
• Open-source AI-powered education platform that transforms study materials (PDF, DOCX, Markdown, TXT) into interactive learning resources — quizzes, flashcards, Cornell-style SmartNotes, and podcasts
• Rich toolset including Contextual Chat, Voice Transcribe for lecture recordings, Homework Planner, ExamLab exam simulation, AI Debate practice, and a personalised Study Companion
• Built with Node.js/TypeScript + LangChain/LangGraph backend and Vite/React/Tailwind frontend, using JSON storage by default with optional vector DB, and 14+ TTS providers (Edge TTS, ElevenLabs, Google TTS, OpenAI, Cartesia, Hume, MiniMax)
- Notes:
• Perfect for students, educators, and researchers wanting a self-hosted NotebookLM alternative where documents never leave your environment when paired with local LLM/TTS
• The CaviraOSS Community License restricts commercial use and resale, so it's a non-starter for hosting providers or business deployments without explicit permission

Looks interesting.
I am actually experimenting building a "Tutor" app from scratch.
Will look at packaging this. -
Sadly I think it is way too early to package this.
No release published and some upstream bugs.
Not even sure if it's functionally complete compared to its promises. -
indeed, I had seen the absence of release before posting and though this might be challenging to package. This as well as the relative lack of commit in the last 6 months.
Thanks for trying! -
It’s a shame because it looks good and has the right ambitions. I suspect they realised it’s more complex than they thought. I’m struggling a bit with my Tutor app, having to make compromises on content loading, keeping control of tutor agent.
But persevering. I feel a “teach me” app can be very valuable. -
Yes - I am with you on this. Would love an alternative to notebookLM / decent (and scalable) tutoring ai app.
I was recently pointed toward Open Notebook AI - App request hereMight be worth having a look, albeit this is single user only for now (multi user support is discussed/planned)
