Summary

Orthanc is a mature, free and open-source DICOM server for medical imaging.

It can store, organize, view, upload, receive and transfer DICOM studies such as X-ray, CT and MRI images.

Orthanc provides a web interface, REST API and DICOMweb support and can be used as a lightweight PACS / vendor-neutral archive.

Why I would like to see it on Cloudron

I would like to use Orthanc as a private self-hosted archive for my own and my family's medical imaging data.

Today patients still frequently receive imaging studies on CD/DVD. Instead of keeping individual discs, Orthanc would allow these DICOM studies to be stored centrally on a self-hosted Cloudron server, with Cloudron handling HTTPS, backups, updates and persistent storage.

This seems like a very good fit for Cloudron's self-hosting philosophy, especially for users who want to keep sensitive medical imaging data under their own control.

Orthanc already provides maintained Docker images and persistent storage can be cleanly separated from the application.

Previous Cloudron work

Interestingly, Orthanc was already packaged for Cloudron in the past by @mehdi.

In an older Cloudron discussion, @girish wrote that although medical imaging was not Cloudron's main target market, the team liked the idea of having Orthanc available on Cloudron.

Would there be interest in reviving this package, either as:

1. an official Cloudron App, or
2. a maintained Community App?

I would be happy to test a current package on my Cloudron installation.
