I'm on a quest to find the best podcasting client that is open-source, available in docker image so that it can be listed here in the wishlist.

I think Winds seems to be the best candidate if cloudron had 1 podcasting app !

      Client :

      • Podgrab https://github.com/akhilrex/podgrab
A self-hosted tool to download latest podcast episodes as soon as they become live.

      Full set :

      • Podsheets
Podsheets is a set of open source tools for podcast hosting, ad management, community engagement, and more.

      • Winds - A Beautiful Open Source RSS & Podcast App Powered by Getstream.io
        https://github.com/GetStream/Winds

      • Homehost - self-hosted, Netflix-like app made for streaming
        https://github.com/ridhwaans/homehost

      • Awesome Podcasts on github : https://github.com/rShetty/awesome-podcasts

      • Divers

      Dir2Cast : https://github.com/ben-xo/dir2cast
      Podcats : https://github.com/jakubroztocil/podcats

it's probably going to be an interesting talk because we all have different needs, some might want a full system to produce and publish podcasts, others just want to have a simple self hosted client to subscribe and listen on the go, curious to know what is the community experience with podcasting, selfhosting and simply from a listener perspective, how do you handle your podcasts usage in the context of self-hosting and data ownership ?

For myself, I don't want to have a device bloated with audio and manage it all from my smartphone, I listen to podcasts while working or at home, so I would rather have a self hosted client to grab new podcasts episodes from subscriptions as they arrive and then listen them directly on the browser or via streaming on any device.

      What's your approach ?

ampache has podcast support - https://github.com/ampache/ampache/wiki/Podcasts but I haven't tried it at all.

Publishing podcasts and listening to them are two vastly different use cases of course, where I personally are only interested in publication platforms. Currently using Wordpress for that purpose, which works fine, but I’m always on the lookout for alternatives. Especially ways of getting better statistics.

@yusf I think ampache can do both. Per that wiki page anyway.

@yusf Funkwhale has created features for artists and podcasters, see https://docs.funkwhale.audio/users/channels.html

@yusf also using WP + https://blubrry.com/services/powerpress-plugin/ for a music site I run since a few years but I'm in fact not doing podcasting at all, just using the player feature and ability to create podcasts episodes from WP posts to manage playlists, custom rss feeds by artists/albums/tags but I find the whole thing too messy šŸ˜•

what podcast plugin do you use ?

@girish going to test this out, I thought this was only to publish not subscribe šŸ™‚

@rmdes I use Seriously Simple Podcasting and Seriously Simple Statistics. Been working flawlessly for years.

Ghost is another option that we've got on Cloudron, see e.g. https://ghost.org/podcasters/ and https://ghost.org/tutorials/custom-rss-feed/

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner
