Ignore the red warning for server compatibility, works better than the Nextcloud Desktop if anything:

@marcusquinn what is the "Virtual Files" feature?

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

@jdaviescoates See remote files as if they were on your local machine. If you open them, they get downloaded in the background. No sync necessary.

@necrevistonnezr Faffing around with .cnf files on Mac & Linux, I have little tolerance for unnecessary obstacles. Faffing doesn't scale well beyond a single user and I have 60+ to consider.

I've also tested this with both the the ownCloud and Nextcloud app, and they are both slow as hell on the first sync, and randomly use lots of CPU for mundane asks.

So I tried Expandrive, works first time, super fast, minimal local drive space use.

I love open-source, but there's times when one 10x developer with a business model can run rings around committee camels.

@marcusquinn True. https://mountainduck.io/ Is another contender as well as https://mac.eltima.com/mount-cloud-drive.html. But all paid.
Many file managers (such as TotalCMD, Forklift or Nimble Commander) let you bookmark STP or WebDAV folders as well - works just like a drive then.

@necrevistonnezr Yeah, I've subscribed to that too, works well - but, alas, I need a Linux solution.

@robi If you can explain to 60+ people how to do that, and have users get what they need fast and without drama or excessive disk-space usage or time, on 5 different operating systems across computers and devices, you are a better man than I.

@marcusquinn Sounds like a good use case to pay for an appliance that does all you need with a pretty UI/integration.

@robi expandrive.com solves the need faster and for less, it's just a shame that Nextcloud's own App is quite inferior in this case, and ownCloud's is a little better but just no where near as fast and easy as Expandrive across platforms.
