icedrive as backup solution?
-
I just signed up for iDrive now, atleast basic backup on Cloudron works with the s3 compatible provider.
-
@girish Just noting; icedrive.net and idrive.com/e2/ are different providers, given it's a post @RazielKanos started for Icedrive, but in it I mention IDrive for price comparison.
-
@marcusquinn ah yes, indeed. I didn't try out icedrive but idrive.

How did you manage that? I have tried to find it in the docs and couldn't see it. I asked idrive support how to connect a Cloudron to their idrive storage and they said:
IDrive is a backup/restore solution where we can only save the backups on IDrive cloud, External drive or network drive. Any other locations cannot be accessed neither can be connected.

Perhaps it just that everyone everywhere is backing up stuff to Hetzner Storage Boxes at night and their networks are actually much busier at night
Haha! This is so funny! The sys admins using Hetzner think to themselves, I will do the backups at night, when nobody else is using it. They don't think that the only people likely to be using Hetzner are also all sys admins, all thinking to themselves they will backup at night!
This is hilarious! Good insight!

@LoudLemur You want their e2 offering, it's a separate login: https://www.idrive.com/object-storage-e2/

Thank you very much! After you create a bucket, how do you attach it as a volume? in Cloudron?

Hey, @girish, thank you. Such rapid support! And, as ever, my question was already answered in the documentation!
I wasn't looking in the backup section. I had in mind that I would find this in the storage section, as I am wanting to try this as a means of providing additional file storage for Cloudron applications, rather than for backing up Cloudron. I hope this will be OK.
How would marking the bucket on idrive e2 as private rather than public effect usage with applications on the Cloudron?

With object storage, public buckets mean it's accessible via HTTP to anyone.
Some people use it to host web assets or even entire static websites.
