I am not following that much, but I know there are some qualified sys-admins in here.

I host with Netcup, and I am quite happy, however, I might need to upgrade my root server to get more CPU and memory soon. Unfortunately, I have seen that they massively raised prices. Like about double.

This makes me kind of happy with keeping my current contract, I guess ... I suppose, they are not the only ones these days? Is this a current market trend, so I'll better look into how to satisfy my processing needs differently without upgrading?

@ekevu123 I haven’t checked the market as a whole, but yes, you can think of it as an industry issue.

I mostly watch Hetzner, and it’s the same there, but their Auctions listing can show some decent spec reasonable (in current market) cost.

SSDNODES can have interesting offers, there’s a promo every couple months. Downside is best price is for 3 year contract, and maybe they push their shared hosting to the limits. I don’t recall seeing a dedicated server option from them.

Others here may have their finger on pulse better, but it is a mostly question of shopping around.

I had a chat with one of them last year noticing the trend. Thanks to the AI boom, and manufacturer component availability like RAM, they all decided to raise prices.

Yeah, massively! But so far, Hetzner auctions really seem to provide good offers still. I guess I'll uninstall some rarely used apps from my main cloudron for now and try to make do with what I have.

SSDnodes have been reliable for us and they offer loads of RAM. Perhaps we have been lucky, but we would definitely try them again. Their CPUs are older generation though, so you might need something more modern.

I moved most of my apps to on-premise servers and kept a handful on a Hetzner VPS to keep costs down. I'm using SFF computers like the HP Elitedesk 800 G3 Mini (under $100 on eBay nowadays) and it's a solid machine for hosting. Older ram like DDR3/DDR4 are easier to find/buy too.
