Goes to show how deplatforming works:
The way their Discord got banned was bots posting a load of profanities and abuses using non-standard characters to get around the moderation bots.
Instant breech of Discord Ts & Cs and auto-ban.
Some of these disruptors are sponsored, some just for the fun of it - but when you rely on someone else's hosted platform, you are at the mercy of their rules, protections and enforcement to preserve themselves before you.
I've never had so many friends start to take an interest in data security, privacy and ownership!
@marcusquinn the bot issue is a real issue though. How can one moderate all that content coming in with all those bots and some human messages in-between? I have no solution, but clearly automated moderation has shown to not work either. Even this forum here struggles with bots and us manually moderating, I can't imagine how it must be if you are explicitly targeted.

@nebulon Robot wars! Like any system, as long as it isn't totally defeated, every attack is information on how to protect from the same thing happening again. Any with the human spam trolls, sometimes it's just better to have more human mods to share the work in swatting them down faster.

@nebulon I think the wsb mods were complaining that reddit API has too low a rate limit and thus their automated moderation was not very effective. Selfhosting/decentralizing will atleast get over that part.

@scooke For crypto intel you need to be on 4chan - there's only so much meme-trading I can cope with at a time

If you haven't been glued to the r/wallstreetbets stories on Twitter, are you even a geek?
Funniest story unfolding I've seen for a year!
There's hope yet - and I expect the self-hosted and fediverse interest will only grow, as the battle between centralised and distributed hots up
@marcusquinn fellow "WSB retard" here! The revolution will not be televised lol
looks like crypto/DeFi are the new meta =] -
@marcusquinn It was private for a while but looks like they are back now! Given they got banned by Discord too, really hoping they pick some selfhosted solution for the future
@girish when they come we will be here to HODL it down & support

Looking at the P&D above, it lasted exactly 2 hours. Definitely no financial advice, interesting to watch though.
