Sakai is an LMS (Learning Management System). These might also be called Course Management Systems (CMS). It began development after Moodle and is written in Java.

Haha! This is very funny. Actually, when I remember checking Sakai last, it actually was almost last millenium, and at the time was too bleeding edge to be used! I had hopes for it, and thought it must by now still be a great candidate. (It ticked all the boxes way back then, almost.)

I will have to look at some of these LMSs again sometime soon, but there is a lot more to do!
