Self-Hosted Substack like option for Cloudron
-
A lot of people have started publishing content on Substack. It is a proprietary platform. Perhaps people here are familiar enough with Substack to be able to suggest a Free alternative we could offer on Cloudron? https://alternativeto.net/software/substack/?license=opensource Would Ghost be Cloudron's best alternative? The following article suggests (proprietary) Cove for commenting. Cloudron offers some Free commenting systems e.g. Commento. I am not sure how well that integrates into Ghost. https://codelet.co/how-to-build-your-own-substack-with-ghost-and-cove/ PS While researching this, I found that you can replace medium.com in an URL with scribe.rip and you have a different frontend for medium webpages.

I think so, yes. Also, it can integrate with Discourse for comments (that's my plan) https://ghost.org/integrations/discourse/ Although note, however, that you have to use the Mailgun service to send newsletters with Ghost, so it can't really be fully self-hosted.

See Twitter today, apparently Substack is (at least in part), now running on Ghost!

It's funny how the guide to a self hosted fee free substack / patreon site using Ghost builds on a paid theme and a paid commenting system that's all but fee free. Nice side step circle. @doodlemania2 @jdaviescoates
As for Substack running on Ghost, NOPE, it's just them using Ghost compatible themes on top of Substack.
