Easy way to duplicate an app for making a dev or pre-production instance?

Does such a thing exist? If not, is there any tutorial out there?

- make all app updates
- make backup of the app
- start same app on a subdomain
- import backup
Wont the domain and cloudront app settings be in conflict?
