    • Title: Campfire

    • Main Page: https://github.com/basecamp/once-campfire / https://once.com/campfire
    • Git: https://github.com/basecamp/once-campfire
    • Licence: MIT (open-sourced in August 2025)
    • Dockerfile: Yes
    • Demo: N/A (though you can view the product demo video at once.com)

    • Summary: Campfire is a self-hosted, installable group chat application created by 37signals. Originally launched in 2006, relaunched in 2024 as part of the ONCE product line, and open-sourced in 2025, it provides essential team chat features including group rooms, direct messages, @mentions, file sharing, search functionality, and mobile PWA support.

    • Notes: The recent open-sourcing under MIT license makes this an excellent candidate for Cloudron deployment, especially since it seems to be focused on smaller deployments

    • Alternative to / Libhunt link: https://alternativeto.net/software/once-campfire/about/

    • Screenshots:

    This would be an excellent addition to Cloudron's app catalog, especially for those who want a simple, reliable chat solution without tons of configuration options (like Mattermost)

        Seems this is now free (I think it used to be $299 or something), great move by them!

        Very popular alt to Slack for communities.

          @vvarp-0

          It seems like users don’t need to create an account, right? Instead, they can use the invitation/link to join the various chats? If so, that would be very clever, as it would eliminate the ‘why not use WhatsApp? I don’t want to make another account’ agrumentation.
